DEFINICIÓN
LA CEIBA PENTANDRA o árbol de “KAPOK”, es conocida en todo el mundo como el árbol de la vida, por su significado histórico y cultural.
Desde la época pre-Colombina, la “CEIBA” es sinónimo de sabiduría y resistencia. Aún en la actualidad es venerada como árbol sagrado y misterioso por excelencia.
Estos árboles están cargados de leyendas y misterios que se transmiten de generación en generación.
LAS LEYENDAS:
MAYAS: Los “MAYAS” llamaban la CEIBA, “YAX-CHE”, el árbol verde azul. Para ellos era el “WAKAH-CHAN”, árbol del mundo, el que se erige en el medio del mundo y sostiene el cielo. Sus ramas alcanzaban hasta los trece niveles del mundo. Sus raíces llegan hasta los nueve niveles de “XIBALBA” el inframundo. Era un puente de comunicación entre los diversos niveles del universo.
TAÍNOS: Los indígenas del Caribe “TAÍNOS” nombraron el árbol CEIBA. Para ellos era un Hogar de los Espíritus que se comunicaban con sus tribus. Además del espíritu del árbol, en la noche los espíritus de sus muertos, “LOS OPIAS”, se movían entre las ramas del árbol. Los TAÍNOS construían sus canoas con el árbol de la CEIBA. Ellos pedían permiso al espíritu de la CEIBA, antes de cortarlo para construir sus canoas.
AFRICA: En África el “KAPOK” es sagrado. Se dice que dormir en almohadas rellenas del algodón de KAPOK trae buena suerte, purifica y fortalece la energía material y espiritual, trae buenos sueños y la vibración de los santos. Los africanos que llegaron a América consideraban que dormir sobre colchones de KAPOK del árbol de CEIBA los favorecía con buenos sueños de su tierra natal.

DEFINITION:
THE CEIBA PENTANDRA or “KAPOK” tree, is known around the world as the Tree of Life, for it’s cultural and historical significance.
Since pre-Colombian times, the “CEIBA” has been synonymous of knowledge and resistance. To this date it is venerated as a sacred and mysterious tree by excellence.
These trees are charged with legends and surrounded by myths and mysteries passed on from generation to generation.
LEGENDS:
MAYAS: The “MAYAS” called the CEIBA, “YAX-CHE”, which means “blue green tree”. To them it was “WAKAH-CHAN”, the world tree that stood at the middle of the world and held up the sky. It’s branches reached up the thirteen levels of heaven. It’s roots reached down to the nine levels of “XIBALBA”, the underworld. The CEIBA was a communicational bridge to the diverse levels of the universe.
TAÍNOS: The Caribbean Indians “TAÍNOS”, named the tree CEIBA. These trees were the “Home of the Spirits” who communicated with their tribes. In addition to the tree’s own spirit, at night TAÍNOS spirits of the dead, “OPIAS”, would swarm around the beaches of the CEIBA tree. TAÍNOS used these trees to build their canoes. They even asked permission from the spirit of the CEIBA before cutting her to make canoes.
AFRICA: In Africa the “KAPOK” is also considered sacred. It is said that sleeping on KAPOK cotton pillows will bring good luck. Such pillows also purify and empower your material and spiritual energy, bringing good dreams and saintly vibrations. Africans that came to America often slept on mattresses and pillows stuffed with KAPOK, to bring dreams of their homeland.
